I need to get out more. There’s so much stuff going on, that it’s easy to get overwhelmed. And while there is some great music happening (there was a jazz performance by Chris Botti last night I would have loved to have seen), it’s the odd ball stuff that I’m really missing out on. Like SantaCon that I promised I’d do this year, or the local Dodgeball and Kickball leagues I’ve been meaning to sign up for. But with all the snow craziness going on, I might just have to add this to my list
Say what you will, the people in this town are awesome. I love PDX!

Go get free Starbucks coffee!
Earth Day is coming on April 22; it’s time for all to get into earth-friendly activities again and get your recycling, composting, and energy-saving back on track. Also, if you want to shop for earth-friendly clothing, crafts, and sample organic local-grown food — visit the Green Festival in Seattle on April 12 and 13.
Go outside and look up. This is what you can see right now in the sky above Portland (the time is 7:30PM); the moon is orange and is fully covered by the Earth’s shadow. Awesome!
“Widely heralded as one of the most important artists of his generation, Olafur Eliasson nimbly merges art, science, and natural phenomena to create extraordinary multisensory experiences. Challenging the passive nature of traditional art-viewing, he engages the observer as an active participant, using tangible elements such as temperature, moisture, aroma, and light to generate physical sensations. The works assembled for this presentation — the first U.S. survey of this Icelandic artist’s oeuvre — date from 1993 to the present and reflect all facets of his creative practice. Encompassing sculpture, photography, and large-scale immersive installations — including a newly commissioned kaleidoscopic tunnel that envelops the Museum’s steel truss bridge — these groundbreaking projects are intentionally simple in construction but thrilling to behold, sparking profound, visceral reactions designed to heighten one’s experience of the everyday.”

Philippa Lawrence is an artist from Cardiff, England. She gives new life to dead trees by wrapping them in colored cotton. “The success of the first ‘Bound’ tree in Carmarthenshire (as part of ‘Explorations’ at the National Botanic Garden of Wales, 2003) was its ability to reach and connect to the public… There was amusement and enjoyment. People were compelled to touch its trunk; none passed it without comment. The works are an act of veneration and meditation on the trees (and ours) past, present and future. It is important to be able to see the trees from the road or from a well-worn path so that the audience is those that pass by.”
Have a happy Earth Day! Rhythm Behavior wishes everyone green living, recycling, composting, conservation, and all the good things!

This is a great event where everyone is invited. “The AIGA’s Portfolio Development Day is a chance to have your work reviewed by experienced designers and creative thinkers in a relaxed environment. Creative professionals will be there to review your work and provide feedback that can help you, and your portfolio, develop. Just come with work and bring an open mind.”
P.S. Alex and I volunteered to review students’ and young professionals’ portfolios at last year’s AIGA Portfolio Day — the experience was quite beneficial to all.
The VegFest 2007 will be held May 11-12 at Benson High School near the Lloyd Center (PDX). In addition to listening to nationally renowned speakers, you can see cooking demonstrations, visit exhibitors and workshops, and get free food samples.
